AdBlue is an aqueous urea solution used to neutralise NOx emissions from commercial diesel vehicle exhaust gases. Euro 4 emission standards, introduced in October 2006, reduced the NOx and particulates levels for commercial diesel vehicles. These limits will be reduced even further with the introduction of Euro 5 standards in October 2009.

To meet the Euro 4 and 5 standards, all Heavy Duty OEM's have chosen the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems as the technical solution. This after treatment system "runs" on AdBlue, causing a chemical process which reduces the NOx levels to comply with EU regulation.
